Friuli Venezia Giulia

Friuli Venezia Giulia

Friuli Venezia Giulia is an autonomous region of north-eastern Italy, bordering Austria and Slovenia, making it a melting pot of the Latin, German and Slavic cultures. The Alps lie in the North, but the territory along the coast is mostly made up of planes. Between Trieste and the Alps there is a wide plateau, the Carso.

The economy is largely dependant on agriculture, the main crops being maize, sugar-beet, wheat and soy beans. The region also boasts the production of some excellent wines. The capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia is the beautiful city and seaport of Trieste, known in Italy for the infamous violent wind, La Bora di Trieste.

Amongst the best produce of Friuli Venezia Giulia you will find one of the finest Prosciutto hams: San Daniele which has a delicious sweet flavour.
