Marche

Marche

The small region of Le Marche is located in central Italy between the Apennines and the Adriatic. Ancona, an important city seaport, is the capital of the region. The region enjoys a very varied landscape going from mountains through hills to beautiful beaches. The hills are very rich and agriculture is still the main resource today.

The coastal area is mostly covered by sandy beaches - a popular place to visit in summer. Among the produce of the land, olive oil and wines are perhaps the most popular with names as Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Verdicchio. The mountains are densely forested, and its most famous product is black truffle, along with chestnuts and mushrooms like Porcini.

In the North, Pesaro and the University town of Urbino are other interesting places to visit.
